Giving medicines covertly: A quick guide for care home managers and home care managers providing medicines support

NICE have produced a quick guide to provide information about giving medication covertly.

Care staff need to be aware of the Mental Capacity Act and its Code of Practice and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards to protect both the person and themselves when giving medicines covertly. Adults should not be given medicines covertly unless they have been assessed as lacking the mental capacity to make decisions about their health or medicines.

The NICE quick guide can be found at https://www.nice.org.uk/about/nice-communities/social-care/quick-guides/giving-medicines-covertly
