What do we do?

Speeds Healthcare provides medicines management solutions to the UK independent healthcare sector, including supply of product and on-site clinical pharmacy support.
Through our nationwide network of specialist clinical pharmacists and bespoke software technology we help clients to comply with healthcare regulations and best practice requirements regarding medicines management.
Our mission is to improve outcomes for our patients, clients and healthcare professionals.

We have a very diverse range of clients representing many different sectors, such as mental health hospitals, ophthalmic hospitals & clinics, addiction clinics, specialist schools, podiatry clinics, homecare services, nursing & residential homes etc.

We provide optimum solutions based on our experience of over 35 years supporting the independent health and social care sectors and are experts in medicines management.
Our wholesale facility and automated dispensary are situated at Chester from where we distribute supplies nationwide.
Our supply hub is supplemented by our team of specialist clinical pharmacists who are located within easy reach of our clients’ premises.

Senior Management Team

David Speed

Chief Executive Officer

David spent his early career working as a pharmacist and in various management roles with Boots until leaving to open Speeds Pharmacy in Mold. His interests led him to working on Total Quality Programmes within pharmacy. He completed a Diploma in Therapeutics with the Welsh College of Medicine and worked with GP practices to provide prescribing advice and formulary production.

In 2006 David commenced his studies in Psychiatric Therapeutics and established Speeds Hospital Pharmacy to support the growing independent mental health sector. Speeds Hospital Pharmacy subsequently became an independent company based in Chester and went on to be renamed Speeds Healthcare, owing to the increasing diversity of clients we now serve.

David’s professional committee involvement has included 10 years with Clwyd LPC, 4 years as treasurer with Clwyd RPSG, two terms of 4 years with the Unichem Pharmacy Consultative Board (latterly as Chair), and 3 years with Flintshire LHB Clinical Governance Committee.

Peter Bradshawe

Chief Operating Officer

Peter graduated from university in Leicester. He undertook his pre-registration training within the hospital sector, of which he had prior experience. He went on to achieve a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, later going on to complete a Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics from Aston University. 

Peter joined Speeds in 2010 in an operational management role. He became a board director in 2012 and worked to innovate the Speeds service offering as Business Development Director; in this role he was responsible for all client relationships, sales and onboarding for new clients. With his APM recognition in project management, he oversees most strategic projects at Speeds. In his current role, he oversees both the pharmacy and wholesale operations and maintains responsibility for key commercial relationships.

Outside of work he is a keen cyclist and will spend part of the weekend touring his home roads (more often searching out a new cafes than on the bike!).

Alison Duke

Clinical & Governance Director

Alison began her pharmacy career with Boots, developing her skills as a community pharmacist. She was promoted to the role of Store Manager, where she honed her skills within this discipline for six years. Following this, Alison worked as a Qualification Manager at a well-renowned college running pharmacy courses and mentoring students whilst also maintaining pharmacy practice. During her five years at college Alison worked hard to achieve her PGCE, developing her training and development role further. Alison gained further experience in the hospital sector, finally specialising in mental health.

During the latter years, Alison has undertaken study in Psychiatric Therapeutics and now finds her position directing professional responsibilities of the company and overseeing our training and development provision. She maintains an active hand in MDTs, policy development, and clinical audits/reviews.

 

John Speed

Commercial Director

John graduated from Nottingham University with a first class degree, qualifying as a pharmacist in 2013. He spent two years in the hospital sector at Nottingham University Hospitals as a resident pharmacist. During his time in this sector he rotated through a variety of clinical specialities and obtained a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy which grounded his clinical knowledge.

In 2015 John moved to the community pharmacy sector and was appointed a Director of Speeds Pharmacy Ltd. where he was able to learn how to run and develop a successful pharmacy business.

John joined Speeds Healthcare in 2019 as Commercial Director. His responsibilities include inventory management, stock procurement, wholesale and medical supplies. He graduated from Lancaster University Management School with a postgraduate Master of Business Administration in 2020.

Carole Speed

Administrative Director

Carole started her career as an administrative assistant with Vale Royal District Council. She joined Boots The Chemists as a Trainee Dispenser in 1981 and undertook the Boots Dispenser Training Course, qualifying in 1983. Carole worked in different Boots pharmacies within Cheshire both in this role and as a Supervisor, before leaving in 1990 to start a family. Carole assisted with the opening of Speeds Pharmacy in Mold in 1986 and subsequently occupied various operational and administrative roles. In 2001 Carole was appointed Director and Company Secretary of Speeds Pharmacy Limited. In 2011 Carole was appointed Director and Company Secretary of Speeds Healthcare Limited.
