Antidepressant withdrawal: is it a bigger issue than outlined in guidance?

Antidepressant withdrawal is a big issue according to GPs and patient groups. Symptoms include dizziness, sleep disturbances, and electric shocks (zaps) in trunk and head, sleep disturbances and fatigue.

Factors depend on type of antidepressant and how long it’s been taken by the patient e.g., paroxetine, venlafaxine and duloxetine are the worst offenders due to half-life and affinity for receptor.  Tapering down over a few weeks to months is recommended but patient groups say it can take much longer to withdraw.
